Word war
The on-going trial of the impeached Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona is getting nasty. This obscenity is borne out of the fact by the tirades thrown against each other between the beleaguered Chief Justice and the President of the Philippines. * * * Indecent this may appear considering that both occupy responsible positions – the President, the leader of the nation, and CJ the head of the court of last resort, positions that demand the highest degree of competence, moral [...]
What do I observe in the impeachment trial of CJ Corona?
As of Day 11 of the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona, it appears that the accused is being battled by what seemingly appears an irreparable damage to his defense as witnesses of the prosecution panel continues to reveal evidences especially on his alleged ill-gotten wealth deposits in the PS Bank recently. These were not included in his statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN), hence the suspicion. As revealed by PS Bank Manager Annabelle Tiongson that all of the [...]
A water story once more!
Just came home from Isabel again where this columnist was requested by the board of directors to help the newly organized publication the LeyteNews, a weekly newspaper produced at the Leyte agro-industrial town of Isabel, now on its second month of operation. The paper is designed by the board of directors to provide a print outlet for development stories in the 4th and 5th districts of Leyte, and eventually province-wide distribution, an obsession. Just like any news publication it’s still [...]
Legacy
Politicians given the gift of election from their constituents to a leadership post but when they bow out of office after a mandated term are expected to leave a legacy of achievements that benefit the governed. They should be able to identify these achievements. That should form part of his crowning glory to justify the honor, the built -in privileges, prestige, and material gains while in office – courtesy of the trust accorded him by the people. * * * To mention recent history, after [...]
Eleven hearing days: Is it worth it?
As of Friday, Feb. 3, it is already the 11th hearing days of the impeachment case against Chief Justice Renato Corona. Regular sessions in the Senate are done in the morning and in the afternoon the senator-judges convene as an impeachment court. * * * Do they really have unhampered normal sessions in the morning? We doubt. We also doubt if the Supreme Court is conducting normal schedule of hearings on cases they hear? With the Chief Justice on trial, how can the schedule hearings be a normal [...]
Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival to participate in Tacloban fiesta (?)
Organizers of the Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals will entertain once more Taclobanons and guests in the June 30 Tacloban fiesta week celebration primarily to offer this presentation to honor the miraculous Child Jesus, Senior Sto. Niño, patron saint of Tacloban City. The child Jesus also known as Senior Sto. Niño is also the patron saint of the province of Leyte. This early January, 2012 the organizers have already sought approval for the festival presentation for June 27, the [...]
Public clamor: Set a deadline to finish this impeachment hearing!!!!
Before anything else I would like to react to the statement of Supreme Court Administrator Midas Marquez about his being a spokesman of the impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona. He claims that it is his duty to defend in public the Chief Justice. * * * I doubt the veracity of this statement he aired over television the other day. If his statement stands on strong legal ground, I would not venture to question it, because I am not a lawyer. But if that is correct then I propose that it be [...]

The “MATIN” touch
Mayor Remedios C. “Matin” Petilla is one of the many political leaders of this province who make an imprint of one dynamic and sincere leadership as can be gleaned by her one-year performance as Palo town’s executive. The just concluded Christmas Festival could easily rank as the most impressive yuletide activity in Leyte with daily activities from the start of the Christmas season Dec. 16 and ended January 2, 2012. It was “Enchanting Palo” indeed under Mayor Matin. Palo town [...]
