Watch your luggage

Watch your luggage

What could be behind cinema star Claudine Barretto’s mind when she went berserk after finding out that her and her family’s baggage were loaded on a plane not that one she and her company boarded? Something very important must be in said luggage that she could not wait till that plane carrying her things reach NAIA. Had you been in the shoes of Ms. Barretto, would you react the same way minus, of course, the scuffle caused by the misunderstanding between hard-hitting columnist Ramon Tulfo [...]

On Mother’s Day (May 13th this year), moms across the globe are dearly remembered, in that some clannish families seize this opportune moment to bond more closely with the matriarch, without the latter having to prepare everything for the guests. While some observe Mother’s Day in very expressive way, others commence the celebration with the blessing of the church. Although considered secular, the observance of this special day for moms is also given importance by churches, primarily the [...]

Good news amid protest “Thanks, Pres. Noy!”

Good news amid protest “Thanks, Pres. Noy!”

That could be an apt remark this day when Pres. Noynoy Aquino unveils the “surprise package” he earlier hinted to Metro Manila newsmen last week, presumed to be an earlier release of the last tranche of the Salary Standardization Law 3 implementation. Others might get it with cold shoulders as this a-month-advance release was granted last year, meaning instead of waiting until July as provided under this law, the third tranche last year was released in June. This translated to millions of [...]

Philippines: A Chinese territory?

Philippines: A Chinese territory?

Could it be that the Philippines is a Chinese territory? In such a situation, what will be its repercussion on the country’s sovereignty considering that the so-called “Pearl of the Orient Seas” has been enjoying and heralding its independence from the control of foreign states for hundreds of decades now? Should the Chinese government discover by accident that their country’s history tells that the Philippines used to be China’s colony or a part of its territory will the national [...]

Critical thinking at juvenile years

Critical thinking at juvenile years

“Be heard. Be counted.” This is a non-rare slogan that reverberates even through isolated villages across the planet. This catchphrase is most oftentimes quoted in weblogs and colloquies. In a way, democratic political polls amplify this cliché. Although being heard and being counted is basically an exercise of one’s free will or volition it necessitates some sense of responsibility and critical thinking. These abilities do not happen overnight but an accumulation of experiences learned [...]

Factors that keep oil price high

Factors that keep oil price high

In its April 2012 Monthly Oil Market Report, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) underscored factors that impinge upon the pricing of oil in the world market. Far from what local authorities feed their citizens that the domestic pricing is much affected by the movement of price in the world market, OPEC claims otherwise. In the April MOMR it disclosed the interplay of factors, among which the industry speculation and geopolitical influences. OPEC states, “Given the [...]

In keeping this tradition of commemorating the JCI Week that started April 15, JCI-Tacloban rolled out last Sunday the [...]
