A Home For Every Filipino
Vice-President Jejomar Binay, chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) sees this mandate as a huge challenge. As in many developing countries around the world, the rapid pace of urbanization in the Philippines continues to drive demand for basic urban services and infrastructure. The need to urban migration as well as the natural increase in the urban population have resulted in acute supply-demand imbalance in housing. VP Binay conducted a series of [...]
Honorable Ronald Singson
Ilocos Sur Congressman Ronald Singson who is facing charges of drug trafficking in Hong Kong should resign from the House of Representatives if he himself gives a high regard to the august body that he belongs. As a congressman, he is the leader of his people in Ilocos Sur, a symbol of a true statesman, an honorable person who must exhibit honesty and integrity in his actions. Possession of illegal drugs is unbecoming of a legislator, an embarrassing and humiliating action of a leader. He is [...]

The Vizconde case
The Supreme Court recently acquitted Hubert Webb and his co-accused in the murder of Estrellita, Carmela and Jennifer Vizconde in 1991 overturning the 2000 ruling by the Paranaque RTC that was upheld by the Court of Appeals in 2005. The Supreme Court ruled that Jessica Alfaro was a questionable witness. She was only a substitute witness and it was confirmed that she was an NBI asset and she herself was takings drugs. But the most compelling reason is Hubert Webb’s credible alibi that he [...]

The Truth Commission
The Supreme Court decision declaring the Philippine Truth Commission unconstitutional is a sad day for us Filipinos in a fight against corruption. It is a violation of the principle of separation of powers in government, an affront to a co-equal branch of government. The SC decision only gave immunity to individuals who infringed on the country’s anti-corruption and other penal laws. The SC decision is nothing more than a payment of gratitude by justices appointed by former President [...]
Smile and laugh
Laughter these days has become a rare commodity. Research shows that the number of times adults engage in some type of laughter is a more 15 times per day while children laugh 300 times. Laughter as a therapy dates back to the Israeli King Solomon when he said that a cheerful heart works like a medicine, but a crushed disposition dries up the bones. He recommended it thousands of years before medicine was discovered that laughter is a powerful antidote to stress, pain and [...]
The Korean crises
Just a week ago, there was an exchange of artillery fire in the Yellow Sea between the armed forces of North Korea and South Korea and heightened fears that North Korea might recklessly instigate another US – China war, similar to what happened during the 1950s Korean War. It is doubted if China would want to engage the U.S. in a war unless the armed conflict is really inevitable. China is dominating the U.S. in trade, manufacturing and so forth. They would not deviate from where they are [...]
The lotto
As I am writing this column, there is no lucky bettor yet of the more than half a billion pesos jackpot prize of the Grand Lotto 6/55 draw which is held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday every 9:00 pm. It’s been more than 3 months that passed and no one still got the lucky combination to make one a multi-millionaire. The prize is so big that it created changes in the betting behavior of people. Some place their bets through combinations of numbers of more than 6 numbers but the bet is [...]
Pilipinas kay ganda
The Department of Tourism has been bombarded with criticisms that the DOT slogan’s logo was lifted from Poland’s tourism campaign, Polska. A check with the official travel website of Poland yielded positive result – their logo has a striking similarity to “Pilipinas Kay Ganda”, from the front, the colors and even the use of a tree, bolstering accusations of plagiarism. The new slogan is aimed at promoting the country as a premier tourism destination. The flaw in the new tourism [...]
