Overpopulated? (Second of two parts)
Accepting population as a problem had diverted government efforts towards controlling instead of developing people. Policymakers ought to halt from following blindly what well-funded sponsors dupe them with data and information that are not validated. Many of the things these population control advocates tell to their target audience are claims not only unsupported but dubious as well. It is pitiful that people are easily duped into believing propaganda without probing the validity and accuracy [...]
Overpopulated? (First of two parts)
One nagging issue that is well nourished by huge funding is population. Drumbeaters of population control are steadfast in pursuing the profitable business of contraception where artificial gadgets are produced and marketed to unsuspecting victims of deception. Sustained threats at a projected population balloon that is depicted to burst if unabated had created a misconception among the gullible. Distorted mentality about a population that is bound to starve due to scarcity of goods had [...]
Unfit honorable
We have come of age where working for anything in any capacity requires basic knowledge and skills. Even those who submit to underemployment and underpaid jobs have to demonstrate necessary working knowledge and skills required of the job sought for. One can hardly become an underpaid saleslady or salesman or watchman or security guard without earning a secondary certificate or high school diploma. There are jobs in the informal sectors where even the basic elementary education is required for [...]
Orientation?
Connoting varied meanings but orientation is commonly understood as providing direction or a course towards a desired goal. That is what the local government department is set to do to new local officials who had just assumed office on June 30. The target appears noble in the sense that it aims to empower local officials who managed to win the May 19 synchronized national and local first ever automated elections. These officials won not by the voters’ free volition but by the strong desire of [...]
Tattooing and body painting?
Business has desecrated what was once a socio-civic activity with religious significance. It started as a dance parade in the early eighties and the presentations from participating schools were all in praise and reverence to the Holy Child. Whether the praise and reverence is still part of the activity is already hard to tell. Dominating the scene is pure revelry and merrymaking from noisy throngs dancing with glee in the painting spree. What used to be religious standards and banners [...]
Education or ignorance
Going back to school is always an exciting experience for students. It is another opportunity to rise in the ladder of education and become what one dreams to be someday. For most students, schooling is a good riddance from the household chores that they had been engrossed with during the summer break. Others who had to spend the vacation on enterprising gimmicks may have run short of days to earn enough for the school days. But those who went on happy trips and peer gimmicks, the school days [...]
Dishonorable festivities
The sequel of an unending saga is up as unfriendly factions take a return-bout of sorts to make this year’s fiesta raucous. Last year, one of the contending parties had sought the intervention of the court to temporarily restrain the chief executive of this highly urbanized city from waylaying the staging of the Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival. Organizers are steadfast in their plan of staging of the activity along the main streets of the city but the city chief executive is bent in not granting [...]
