This writer learned that there are approximately 52 million voters in this country and every senatorial candidate is allowed to spend 3 pesos per voter , roughly a senatoriable is allowed to spend 156 million in the duration of the whole campaign. These figures comes straight from the COMELEC chairman’s pronouncement .

Eulogy for the King

This is but a commentary and perhaps an unsavory yet a real meat stuck in between teeth as the justices who acquitted Hubert Webb and company used to say. The “tinga” must be dealt with.

Mana Aurelia

Hers could be inspired by the Rome of old. Imperial and majestic.

World Teachers Day

In many countries, Teachers’ Days are intended to be special days for the appreciation of teachers, and may include celebrations to honor them for their special contributions in a particular field area, or the community in general.

Under the same Sun!The simmering heat between the citizens of Islamic countries against U.S. citizens as triggered by a  film that insults our Muslim Brothers faith is unfortunate. It had claimed several lives so far and  from the looks of it more will be dead because of that vague  indie film of sorts. For a clearer understanding here is an excerpt in the Denison Forum of Truth and Culture as written by Jim Denison “  A film called “Innocence of Muslims” has sparked violence in the Arab world that persists this morning.  Why is this obscure movie causing such an uproar among some Muslims?  Two facts explain the crisis. First, Islam prohibits depictions of the Prophet Muhammad, lest they lead some to worship a man rather than Allah.  To Muslims, the religious portraits of saints and other biblical characters so common to Christian worship can become objects of veneration and thus idols.  They forbid representations of Muhammad, Jesus, Moses, and all other Islamic prophets. Second, while the Prophet must never be depicted, he must always be respected.  When speaking of Muhammad or other prophets of Islamic history, a Muslim will typically follow his name with “peace be upon him” (abbreviated PBUH in Muslim writings).  Any art that demeans the Prophet is seen as a direct attack on the religion he founded. “Innocence of Muslims” breaks both taboos.  It depicts Muhammad in a bad way.  In so doing, it offends Muslims the world over.  This reaction is not unprecedented—when a Danish cartoon in 2006 portrayed Muhammad with a bomb worn as a turban, it sparked demonstrations around the world.  Such slanders are not viewed by Muslims as free speech, but as hate speech.( http://www.denisonforum.org/cultural-commentary/513-why-an-obscure-movie-angers-muslims) If we look at it from that context, the Muslim brothers are just venting out their anger because they perceive the whole thing as blasphemous and slanderous and unfair . While we respect the anger of the Muslims it is not saying that killing is justified here. However it is also sad that some people would rather risk the lives of others to put forward their subtle hate for the Islamic people.  They  would rather plant seeds of hate by acts like making films that would surely creates anger from our Muslim brothers . The result is a wrecking crew of angry mob who are willing to kill and die anybody who carry a glimpse of the foe, never mind if the real culprit are safely hiding somewhere. Why throw the first stone on a sleeping giant? Why inflict harm when you can build peace? Why disagreement when there is a chance for harmony? As  the band Scorpion had once said “Because  we are living under the same sun, we all look unto the same moon, then why, why cant we live as one!… By: ROnald O. Reyes

The Friday quake was the strongest , not a few would say that. It was a fact for the people of Eastern Visayas . It was something that wakes you at night and makes you ponder deep, had it been a few seconds longer would I ever survive or the one’s we love.

Tough act to follow

Secretary Jesse Robredo won’t go quietly and fade into the night. True, the sundry will express its grief and lament loudly.

Highwaymen, Weathermen and Us

Today I have seen the video of the finger-poking and slapping of one pitiful Metro Manila Development Authority Traffic Enforcer named Saturnino Fabros, last week I have seen how the unfortunate weathermen staged a protest for their plight.

Olympic craving

The modern Olympic Games began in Athens, Greece, in 1896, two years after French educator Pierre de Coubertin proposed that the Olympic Games of ancient Greece be revived to promote a more peaceful world.

Dolphy of mine

Humility could have been Rodolfo Vera-Quizon’s middle name or was it his section in the catholic school of his youth or perhaps the name of the lane where his Mamang and Papang famously lived and raise his temperament.
