Love for the Philippine Red Cross
“Love is all you need”- John Lennon
TACLOBAN CITY–A sea of red dominated key areas in the country as over a million volunteers joined the biggest run of the year organized by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) – the largest humanitarian organization in the world and in the country. The proceeds of the run will be used to strengthen a network of volunteers down to the barangay level and fund PRC critical humanitarian services.
Runners wearing red showed support in the Million Volunteer Run 2 and showed the world that the Philippines leads in championing the spirit of volunteerism. “Volunteerism is a good value that should be instilled in every Filipinos heart,” said lawyer Tecson John S. Lim, administrator of Tacloban City who represented Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez. The city of Tacloban under the leadership of Mayor Romualdez and wife City Councilor Cristina Romualdez is the biggest sponsor of charity run in the city.
Other MVR fun run were held in the cities of Maasin, Ormoc, Borongan, Catbalogan and in the municipalities of Hilongos, Leyte and Catarman Northern Samar. The chapter has the biggest number of runners in the region with 4,126, while the 5 other cities came up with 5,000 runners combined.
Go Tic Ching, co-chair of the fun run in the chapter, said the support of the city of Tacloban, Rep. Ferdinand Martin “FM” Romualdez and Leyte Governor Mimiette Bagulaya is immeasurable. He added that “without them, the chapter cannot get as many runners and participants. Half of the participants are sponsored by them.”
I am happy our elected officials supported Philippine Red Cross beyond politics. Thank you also to our media partners specially the Leyte Samar Daily Express. Our media friends supported the event from day 1, we announced the charity run. To the schools, government organizations, private companies and our other sponsors, our gratitude. Thank you to our marshalls, Tomeco, Department of Education and our masters of ceremony Sir Tito Aure of Eastern Visayas State University and Chito Solis of Mahaplag National High School. To all the performers in the event, gratis et amore.
Love, laugh and live. Om Shanti ?
