Leyte SP commends Merida police station
TACLOBAN CITY – The provincial board members approved a resolution commending the Merida Police Station on their exemplary performance for their quick response on solving the shooting incident on said town, which caused the death of Ruel Amabao.
Board Member Rolando Piamonte, Sr., committee chair of public order and protective services, said that the provincial board referred to his committee the shooting incident that transpired last November 19, 2012 at Barangay Cabaliwan, Merida, Leyte that resulted to the death of Amabao and likewise wounded Wenito Orge.
Piamonte revealed that Amabao is an employee of the local government of Merida, while Orge is one of the aspiring municipal vouncilor candidates in the May 2013 midterm elections.
According to him, the provincial board issued Resolution Number 2012-615 directing the Leyte Police Provincial Office (LPPO) to conduct an extensive investigation on the incident. In compliance to this resolution, the LPPO directed the Merida Police Station to conduct the investigation at their level and furnish a report to the LPPO.
In action to the directive of the provincial board, the LPPO trough Police Senior Superintendent Pio Manito, provincial director, submitted a report dated January 3, 2013 stating among other things the result of the investigation, to wit: (1.) That suspect Edgar Lato, with intent to kill and with treachery, using a homemade 45 caliber pistol, shot several times Ruel Amabao resulting to his instantaneous death and declared dead-on-arrival by the attending physician at the Ormoc District Hospital; (2.) A stray bullet hit WenitoOrge, a companion of Amabao when the shooting incident took place. Mr.Orge was brought to OSFA Medical Center at Ormoc City for immediate medical attention; (3.) That according to the investigation, the killing of Amabao is not an election related incident but was triggered by personal rift between the victim and the suspect; (4.) That witnesses Jorge Anonat and Jorge Wenceslao who were also accompanying the victim during the shooting incident revealed and confirmed that it was indeed Edgar Lato who is responsible for the killing of the victim; (5.) That after negotiations with the Merida PNP, suspects Edgar Lato surrendered; (6.) That a case for murder was filed in November 20, 2012 through inquest proceedings against the suspect before the Office of the Assistant Provincial Prosecutor of Ormoc City.
With the aforementioned result of the investigation contained in the report of the provincial director of the PNP, the Public Order and Protective Services Committee disclosed the case as cleared and solved.
Moreover, with the quick response undertaken by the proper authorities,the provincial board members submitted a resolution commending the Merida Police Station for the exemplary performance of their official functions resulting to the early solution of the case.
Furthermore, another resolution was submitted requesting the LPPO and Merida Police Station to seriously cooperate and coordinate with the Provincial Prosecutor of Ormoc City in pursuing the case against Edgar G. Lato. (REY GERILLA GRADO)
