What body language reveals
Would be’s or wannabes file their candidacy in full force – with brother, mother, uncle, friends, allies and cronies. Force is the adjective, but as I encoded, “farce” came out from my monitor. I think my CPU is more brainy than I am. A circus, a charade, the whole gang and the whole caboodle come in droves. In other words, the whole process is interesting, spectacular and may be ridiculous.
On the other side of the globe, President Obama and Mitt Romney was seen on television on their first presidential debate. As I watch their body language, like the local scenario – it had its fascinating points too: body language, hand language, gestures, and whole countenance. While Obama gestures like waving a ball, cutting and pointing, Romney on the other hand points, embraces and tilts head and nod. Tilting is suspicious. Uncertainty, yet paradoxically agrees and nods.
However, both politicos use their limbs and faculties, Obama appears more confident and is in control of his elements. Such style leads to fast movements, cutting and spontaneous, that it can send the message to the audience to believe him. Of course, there is also the risk that the controlling style may mean that the alternative posited is difficult.
Meanwhile, their respective dress codes are worthy of note. The color of their ties, Romney wore red and Obama, a plum colored tie. While red is for fire, passion and ardour; plum seeks for approval. For the US general public, it was described as “the first presidential debate was a glaringly public confrontation that looked oddly intimate and personal.”
Comparing local and global politicos’ body language , it is safe to say that most voters assess candidates in such encounters as much by their appearance, gestures as by their words, and the company they have too. If I have the time, I would tally the number of movements each candidate had plus the corresponding verbs used. This way, we can trend which gestures relate to point or idea.
Coming back locally, what can you say with candidates filing with the whole clan and village around them? Moral support, fun, camaraderie, promises, advance support to be liquidated later?
