Trade fair sponsored by LCCI, DTI, DOST and DA expect to generate P500,000 income

GOVERNMENT CENTER, Palo,Leyte – The trade fair sponsored by the Leyte Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology and Department of Agriculture- Leyte Provincial Office is expecting to generate around P500,000.

The Boy Scout Monument at the Government Center is where the trade fair is being held for the last two years now.

DOST Regional Director Edgardo Esperancilla said that in the six-day trade fair, which is to end today, around half a million pesos is the expected generated income by the more than 30 small and medium enterprises entrepreneurs who participated in the annual activity which is held to coincide with the Leyte Landings Commemoration and the Leyte Business Month.

“We hope to reach that P500,000 target by the end of this day,” Esperancilla optimistically said.

Esperancilla added that the trade fair also aims to highlight products in the province of Leyte that are ready to be marketed in the larger market.

Products showcased in the trade fair are those provided with help by agencies DOST, DA and DTI particularly on product development and labeling.

“But some of the products here still need to be put into more buyer or costumer- friendly labels and packaging,” said Esperancilla.

He cited the cassava-buko pie of Palo, which is the product of a women organization in Barangay Arado that needs to have another labeling or packaging.

“It should copy the marketing done by Taiwanese which is more tourist and customer- friendly as it comes into smaller size which may last longer and easy for them to carry,” Esperancilla explained.

In the more than 30 small and medium enterprises entrepreneurs that participated in the trade fair most of which are into food processing and souvenir items, according to the DTI.

More than 20 exhibitors are assisted by DTI and DOST in their product enhancement.

Other exhibitors are supported by the Philippine Coconut Authority and the Fiber Industry Development Authority. (ROEL AMAZONA)
