The LP senatorial slate

Joey E. Clarin

Majority of the Liberal Party (LP) members are not happy with the ruling party’s senatorial slate. It consists of only 3 LP members who are homegrown talents.

Only 3 LP members made it to the senatorial slate, these are former Sen. Ramon Magsaysay Jr., Jamby Madrigal and Paolo Benigno Aquino. The rest of the administration line-up is made up of candidates from other alliance parties, the NP, the NPC and the PDP- Laban.

The LP which is the party in power and with a popular President could have added more candidates of its own in the senatorial elections instead of coalescing with other parties with the same old faces. It should have stalwarts and true blooded liberals like Rep. Erin Tanada, former Gov. Grace Padaca, a newly appointed Commissioner of the Comelec and our very own representative from region 8, Deputy Speaker Raul Daza, a true blooded Liberal party stalwart. We have a senatorial slate that does not look like a Liberal party slate. (Sobra ka mestizo). Are there no one else, these are the same old names and faces who are unlikely to bring a new vision to the Senate.

The people wish more new faces, new and young blood who can inject vigor and energy to the Senate session hall. We hope for new young blood like Bam Aquino who resembles physically and mentally to his uncle, our martyred hero, Ninoy Aquino.
