The Genetic Code of Being Sons and Daughters

President Noy always remind himself and others too: “Ang bayan ay ang amo natin.” He naturally cares for the well being of the taxpayers because he is likeminded, referring to his mother’s nurturance for the welfare of the people. Towing this line is the Chairperson of the Commission on Audit who constantly cautions state auditors in a similar vein that the “taong-bayan” are the masters, we are the servants.” In the same spirit, she is also likeminded.

The two officials mentioned above will naturally and instinctively care for the Filipino people, just as previous officers would. As public servants, both embraces the culture of the entire “Philippine Governance.” Both P-Noy and Chairperson Tan are son and daughter of the Genetic Code of Philippine Governance. Either by election or people’s choice or by adoption. Adoption is a two-way street. We adopt these officials, but they also adopt us.

This also applies to the Church where we placed ourselves in. Whether we like it or not, we are part of the local family. By being baptized, or being confirmed and born again, or being adopted by the church, we become sons and daughters. We imbibe the spirit of the house. However, whether this is certain to happen, is not guaranteed . If we fall short of becoming Christlike into the Spirit of the House, then we are sons and daughters in name only.

Now, since the genetic code of Philippine Governance is “uncertainly clean” too, it is no wonder then that there is the clarion call for “tuwid na daan.” In my experience in the public sector, no matter how I try hard to become a daughter of the “house”, it only increases the pressure or the likelihood, and is never the only element of a genetic download.

If I am smart enough, I should correct myself. Taking it upon myself, relieves me the challenge that comes when another corrects us. We also learn one important lesson – that is, the ability to learn, to be self-taught. I f we judge ourselves, we won’t need to be judged!
