Kabataan reg’l coordinator pushes for junking of Cybercrime Prevention Law
TACLOBAN CITY—Kabataan party-list in Eastern Visayas has called for the junking of R.A. 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Law of 2012.
Mark Anthony Simbajon, regional coordinator of Kabataan party-list, said the law poses threats to internet freedom, the right to privacy and other civil liberties including the freedom of speech, expression, and the press.
“Inclusion of internet libel and vague provisions on data collection will be institutionalizing a state of E-Martial Law in our cyberspace,” Simbajon said.
Simbajon cited sections 4 (C) 4, 5, 6, 19, 26 (C, D, and G) and chapter IV of R.A. 10175.
”It is on these grounds that we call on the netizens and citizens of Eastern Visayas to protest,” Simbajon said, explaining that a strong means to do so is to sign petitions against the said law.
“Let us therefore act by taking a part of our internet time to sign the petition that calls for the preliminary protection of our internet rights against repression and oppression under the said law,” Simbajon added.
The petition he said is available at their website www.kabataanpartylist.com. (REYAN L. ARINTO)
