Lions hold induction of new set of officers

TACLOBAN CIIY – The Tacloban City Lion’s Club held its induction of officers for 2012-2013 at its home at Lion’s Club House along Magsaysay Boulevard, this city. The festive affair was graced by no less than Lion District Gov. Manolo Lao, PMJF, District Gov. 301-B2.

Businessman and philanthropist Benito “Benny” Yao was inducted as president together with Lions Alfredo “Jun-Jun” Cua, Jr. – vice president; Napoleon “Nap” Ruedas – second vice president; Mina Sirikit “Mina”Tagra – third vice-president.

Lions Thomas “Tom” Hamilton – secretary;Vicente “Boboy” Quintero III – treasurer; Arsenio “Sen” Enderez- lion tamer and Sergio “Serg”Sumayod – lion twister.

Medical supplies and medicines for the Tacloban City Lion’s Club Medical Mission


My good friend Lion Benny Yao is serving his second term this year. He was first inducted as president for 2011- 2012. Among the club’s projects under his leadership are medical missions held in Mac Arthur, Leyte; Brgy. Elena, Tacloban City and Basey, Samar serving close to a thousand residents in those places.

They also conducted tree planting activity in Brgy. Salvacion in this city as the club’s contribution for forest protection, mitigate flooding and landslide. Other projects include providing school supplies for indigent residents of the city and reconstruction and re-painting of waiting sheds along Real and Juan Luna streets in the Sto. Niño church, among others.

School supplies were provided to students during the Balik-Eskwela Program last June 2012.


Tacloban City Lion’s Club was established in 1950 right after World War II with Antonio Benedicto as its first president serving three terms. The club has produced two representatives of the Lower House (An Waray party-list Rep. Neil Benedict Montejo and Rep. Artemio Mate); one mayor (Mayor Uldarico Mate) and one vice-mayor (Tacloban City vice mayor Vicente “Tente” Quintero).

Also inducted were Lion board of directors: Arturo “Art” Gabrieles; Federico “Fritz” Muñoz; Vicente “Vic” Reyes, MJF; Virgilio “Vir”Castilo; Roberto “Bobby” Montejo; MJF; Florencio “Loly” Mendoza; Baltazar “Dondon” Auza: Weesit “Bia” Ong and Francisco Kiki Romualdez, MJF.

New Lion and Lioness members were also inductedDr. Lemuel Gatchalian; Reina “Rein Zafra; Atty. Manuel C. Modesto; Sonia L. Navarro; National Maritime Polytechnic Director Forter Puguon; Laster C. Zafra and Ms. Margot De Leon.

Tacloban City Lion’s Club is part of the 45,500 clubs all over the world in 2005 countries with close to 1.4million members under the umbrella organization Lions Club International organized in 1917 by American Melvin Jones with motto “We Serve”.
