Why are they suddenly questioning the loans?

In a few days, Filipinos will have a taste of elections mania that will usher in the start of another important phase in our political exercises. It cannot be helped talking about it this early as most of us are just simply frustrated over the turn of events in our beloved city. The loan which was supposed to be used for financing urgent projects and programs has been stalled due to the selfish move of a few people who belong to the minority block. Using their figment of imagination in tarnishing the real motive of the loans, politicizing it at the expense of majority of Taclobanons is simply evil that could not be tolerated. This is why some Taclobanons are averse to their tactics and are staging some protests to show their disappointments.
Why would they question the loan when it is already unanimously approved? What could be a better motive for questioning it except that these politicians are insecure that once the projects on the drainage, flood control, fish port, slaughterhouse, medical centers and other immediate concerns will get started and will directly benefit the people, they will not be able to claim these as their own accomplishments and therefore could not paste their pictures and names on them? It could even add up to the pogi points of the architect of Tacloban’s progress. Surely, it is a folly, a sign of insecurity and fear. Just like when most of them were against the change in Tacloban’s status and now as HUC, suddenly they are interested to run either for mayoralty or for Councilor slates.
Simply put, the loans are just being advanced from the supposed IRA and other incomes that will be derived later. It is not applying for loans just for the sake of borrowing. The projects and programs to be done are big and immediate in nature and must be urgently implemented, hence the need for bigger funds. It is not important where the money will come from to start them, what is important is these projects are significantly needed for the people and that there is money to pay for these later. This is sound fiscal management. But these people exerted much effort to buy time so project implementation will later fall within the election ban.
It is not the first time that Tacloban City Government has advanced money from banks through loans. All the borrowings incurred in the past have been paid for in time. Considering its trustworthiness and financial viability, banks offer loans to the city government. Without being asked, the banks are willing to advance the money knowing that just like in the past; the loans would be paid up smoothly and without any hitches. Tacloban City cannot garner the Seal of Good Housekeeping and adjudged “Best LGU in 2011,” for nothing. Too bad, that some people feel insecure about these accomplishments than be proud of them.
Why would the opposition single out these recent loans if the city government has been known to be liquid and trustworthy? Voters need to be careful in using their voting capacity – never to vote for candidates who are anti-development, averse to progress and simply selfish.
