Treasurer’s office of Tanauan ransacked
TACLOBAN CITY – A joint and a thorough investigation is being conducted by the scene of the crime operatives (Soco), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) at the municipality of Tanauan, Leyte after their municipal treasurer’s office has been ransacked by unidentified suspects.
It was believed, according to Tanauan Mayor Agapito Pagayanan Jr., that an about P200,000 to P300,000 has been stolen by the suspects.
“According to our treasurer’s officer estimation, the suspects robbed more or less P200, 000.00 to P300, 000.00 pesos,” Pagayanan said.
And, as of press time, the municipal officials and treasurer’s office personnel investigated if there were stolen documents.
The said money was part of the Friday’s collection of the office, and it was placed at their vault for they failed to secure it at the bank.
Pagayanan, meanwhile, admitted that they never expected that this incident will occur in their municipality.
Furthermore, he believes that suspects of the said incident possibly have an idea of where the money was placed for they easily opened the vault and left no trace of scattered items in searching for the key or any possible pin number that will help open the vault.
“Things inside the municipal treasurer’s office were not disarranged that’s the reason why we can say that suspects knew where to find the money,” he added.
“And, it seems that the place was so familiar to the suspects, it is possible that he knew the number combination of the vault or the pin or key of it was left inside the office,” Pagayanan disclosed.
Employees of the treasure’s office noticed that the office padlocked was already destroyed last Monday morning. (Robert Ramirez)
