Police arrest Samar’s No. 1 most wanted person

CATARMAN, Northern Samar – Operatives of the Samar PNP recently arrested the leader and a top member of a private armed group allegedly operating in the province of Samar.

Police Inspector Romuel Nacar, media relations officer of the Police Regional Office 8, identified the suspects as Nicanor Moloboco alias “Nick-nick”, and Rely Cabogoy alias “Nonoy Nguyit”, alleged leader and member of the Moloboco Private Armed Group, respectively.

Moloboco, a jail escapee, is ranked number 1 in Samar Provincial Police Office’s (SPPO) most wanted list, the government having posted a P140,000 cash reward for his captivity. He faces charges for murder and robbery in band before the
Regional Trial Court Branch 41 in Gandara Samar.

While Cabogoy ranks number 2 most wanted in Gandara facing a case for murder at the same court. RTC Branch 41 presiding judge Feliciano G. Aguilar issued the warrants of arrest for the two suspects.

Both suspects were arrested in September 23 and 22 by elements of Special Task Group against PAGs led by PCINSP MARBEN M ORDONIA, Chief of the Provincial Intelligence Branch of Samar PPO and PINSP FRITZ B. BLANCO, Chief of Police of the Gandara Municipal Police Station.

With the arrest of Moloboco and Cabogoy, Police Regional Office 8 Director Chief Superintendent ELMER RAGADIO SORIA believes that they are “gaining grounds” in their mission to dismantle Private Armed Groups (PAGs) in the area.

”The credibility of elections is threatened because these PAGs are used by the politicians to intimidate, harass and coerce voters as they sow terror in communities by terrorizing people, thus, an intensified police actions against them months before the elections is being undertaken by this office”, the police statement quotes Soria.

It was said that an “influential politician” was handling the Moloboco group. However the politician’s name was not disclosed as his identity was still under validation, the police said. (RACHEL V. ARNAIZ)
