The Friday quake was the strongest , not a few would say that. It was a fact for the people of Eastern Visayas . It was something that wakes you at night and makes you ponder deep, had it been a few seconds longer would I ever survive or the one’s we love.

If you wish to know the mind of a man, listen to his words. A  popular Chinese saying  goes, but for our purpose let us substitute man with God and  you will get if you wish to know the mind  of God, listen to his words!.  That was God talking to us, the jolt was enough to rattle, extract the pride in our guts and  make us weak to the bones but God was kind enough to spare our lives and properties. It was His bombastic voice reminding us to toe the line, respect His creation (our Earth) and admonishing us to be humble. The magnitude 7.6 quake hit roughly 66 miles east of Samar Island, and had a depth of 20 miles, according to the USGS. One person died in Japan in a house collapse, the AP reported. Tsunami alerts were issued in seven countries including the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan. Most were lifted shortly after, but along the eastern coast of Japan, still rebuilding from a devastating tsunami last March, residents were told to seek higher ground as a precaution, according to broadcaster NHK.

We are reminded that  we are but a speck on His universe and our  arrogance pride is displeasing Him increasingly. Rom 1:18 For God’s anger is being revealed from Heaven against all impiety and against the iniquity of men who through iniquity suppress the truth. God is angry. God’s wrath comes about because God’s holiness and love have been violated by the sinfulness of man.  Human beings who live their lives apart from God are really antagonistic toward and hateful of his way.  This means people living in such estrangement are actually the enemies of God.  Since mankind assaults everything good and pure that God is and stands for, he cannot but be in opposition to man’s way.  This holy and loving opposition to sinfulness in every form is called “God’s wrath.”  As  the website http://www.gci.org/God/wrath say it movingly .

Certainly , it’s not within my province of authority to throw sermons of fire and brimstones but it’s hard to let the obvious escape  . The quake was so intense I was not able to stand erect the whole time it shook. At the 3rd floor of LNU House, we were literally being smashed from side to side and the stairs was like a rodeo bull you have to be tough to ride it down.  The people shouts anguish and terror , their face was white as the face of a pantomime clown and everywhere else the unmistakable smell of fright hang in the air.

If there is an instantly recognizable lesson that we could derive from the shakey Friday it would be foremost  to remove our headset,  as technology and ease sets in we are comfy with our assets. We have devices to preoccupy our thoughts, we have our jobs to take our time away from us, we have our goals to focused on , we have our debts and yes, wealth to blind our innate humanity. We are wearing headsets , earphones everyday and we don’t want to be  distracted with anything than our needs, our goals our success. We are wearing many hats everyday and we are doing this and that we lost our sense of community our inherent sociality we had become introspective to a dreadful fault.  True, bills are high and funds are low, we need to run and double back , but is it really? In our running and dealings , we fail to admire the scenery, we are failing to offer help, to console and to talk awhile . We are full of ourselves and we miss God’s words and  messages written in the crevices of our hearts because we shun away from them” as something that has to wait”.

I don’t want to take  so much of your time because I know you value it so much. So I will cut to the chase. Open your eyes wider and smile more. More than a social media animal you are a social being live not just virtually existing but living listening to Him , to others. Please remove your headset.
