OCD-8 chief Gozon advises public not to believe info from unauthorized persons during times of calamities
TACLOBAN CITY – The regional director of the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD-8) ask the public to refrain from believing on information that was given by unauthorized persons.
This reminder was raised by OCD Regional Director Rey Gozon after some people went into panic due to misleading information during the occurrence of the 7.6 magnitude earthquake last August 31.
Gozon said that people should only pay attention and believe on the information given by authorized persons from concerned local government units and government agencies.
Gozon said that aside from their respective local government unit, people also could rely on the information coming from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), Philvocs, Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and the OCD.
“We should not believe on any information that does not come from reliable sources because this would create panic,” Gozon said.
“People should only have to believe on the information given by concerned agencies, especially when the issue content needs to be validated,” he explained.
Gozon further urged all LGUs down to the barangay levels and government agencies concerned to conduct an education and information dissemination campaign in their communities so that they would be equipped on knowledge as to what should they do during times of disaster.
“Our office has been doing this education and information dissemination campaign to LGUs and concerned government agencies,” the director said. (REY GERILLA GRADO)
