NEDA to conduct 2012 SOV
TACLOBAN CITY – The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) regional office has announced the Search for Outstanding Volunteers (SOV) for 2012.
Bonifacio Uy, NEDA regional director, said in a press statement that the search aims to highlight and recognize the exemplary performance and dedication of the Filipino volunteers as this will build strong communities across the country.
Uy said this is a search conducted annually by the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) together with the National Volunteer Month (NVM) steering committee and the Search for Outstanding Volunteers (SOV) regional search committee.
He added the search covers all Filipino citizens and volunteers organizations and local chapters of foreign volunteer organizations that currently provide volunteer assistance in the country.
According to Uy, the search has two categories which are the National Outstanding Volunteer Award (NOVA) and the Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award (VLAA).
It was also learned that the NOVA is a recognition granted to outstanding volunteer individuals and organizations that are chosen from among the regional qualifiers. It has two categories namely: the individual category and the organization category. Whereas, the Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award (VLAA) is an honor given to a Filipino volunteer or Filipino volunteer organization or a local chapter of a foreign volunteer organization serving in the Philippines for at least 25 years.
Meylene Condalor, focal person for SOV, said that all nominations must be received by SOV regional search committees not later than September 28, 2012 and the conferment of awards will be on December 2012 in Manila. (MA. MENELYN D. Go, LNU Intern)
