Maceda to run for Senate; he said he was inspired by JPE
KANANGA, Leyte - The noteworthy performance of Senate President Juan Ponce –Enrile in the Senate has inspired former Senator Ernesto Maceda to seek for a seat in the Senate this 2013. At Enrile’s age, he is still sharp, intelligent, and prolific because of his varied experience in the government service.
This was according to Maceda during his visit in Kananga, Leyte recently. The former Senator held a meeting with LGU officials led by Mayor Elmer C. Codilla and the Punong Barangays in Kananga.
During the meeting, the former Senator made known his plan that he is a candidate for Senator under UNA.
Other candidates in their slate are Senator Gregorio Honasan, former Senator Richard Gordon, Senator Loren Legarda,
former Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri, Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, San Juan City Congressman JV Ejercito, former Senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr., Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia and former House Speaker Jose De Venecia. Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero would be a common candidate for UNA and LP.
Maceda said that at the age of 77, he is 11 years younger than Juan Ponce Enrile, who still performed well as a legislator, “I was inspired by Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, nawala yung isyu na matanda na kami, nanghihinayang rin ako kasi kaya ko pa namang maglingkod” he said. He said that he have served in various capacities for 53 years already and that he can contribute significantly to the country in seeking for a seat in Senate, which he have occupied during the 70s, 80s and even 90s.
He said that like JPE and him, senior citizens has still the capacity to hold government office because of their wide experience. “Yung mga tulad ni JPE ang dapat sa Senado, hindi tulad nong iba na mga tipong artistahin lang, hindi naman nagsasalita” he said. (GERALD REYES)
