Killer bomb
A bomb is suspended upon this predominantly Catholic nation and is about to be dropped anytime if nothing is done to hold it. It is a kind that is aimed at annihilating mankind of the future. The killer bomb is aimed at generations to come, in a deliberate grand effort to control population growth. Taking what advocates of population control term as population explosion as a flimsy excuse, the program is being pushed with much urgency in the face of multi-faceted crises affecting the people. The grim picture of a hungry population starving severely due to lack of food for their nourishment is truly alarming. It is truly hard to take such a picture of hungry people wanting so much for food that is nowhere to be found. Until one takes a clearer and vivid picture of the situation, it would really be a cause for concern that requires drastic intervention.
Unfortunately, those wanting to offer intervention are merely looking at the sheer number of the hungry people and forthwith labeling it as the prime cause of the miserable situation. This has been the treatment of the situation and that still is the same treatment now. With the number taken as the root cause of the problem, the immediate solution being pushed is to reduce that number so that the pie would be divided in bigger sizes among a few in order to satiate the need of each individual. This brings us to the ready-made solution prescribed by rich nations that went through the same situation and applied the strategy being rammed upon poor nations that are in dire economic condition. Unwittingly, the solutions are actually ineffective in many ways and expensive as well, making those big companies in the business of population and birth control too rich at the expense of the gullible poor nations.
Do we not still see and realize the folly we have been blindly submitting ourselves to? We have been taking the prescription hook, line and sinker and yet we still wallow in the quagmire of poverty. If population control is the antidote to our grinding poverty, we must be been better off by this time after we have long implemented measures to control the rise of our population.
The one significant question that must have been forgotten if not purposely set aside at the onset upon gazing at the grim picture of a hungry population is, why? Policymakers conveniently evaded asking why is such part of our population hungry? Are those hungry incapable of feeding their own that they need intervention from others, relying for their needs upon the toil of other people? Apart from the dependent population, we ought to have a self-reliant working population that can produce the goods, wealth and services for their needs. It is the utter failure to make population productive coupled with the pervasive social inequities prevailing in society which deprives the poor from meeting their needs despite their industry. It is corruption and exploitation in all its forms that causes people to feel the inadequacies of their needs.
It is not the number of people dividing the pie that needs to be reduced but the commensurate increasing of the pie so that people will have adequacy and will never entertain the misplaced thought that people are too many resulting in their share getting too little. People can never bee too many if wealth is only shared equitably so that everybody will live happy sans the killer bomb.
