EV celebrates NCPW
TACLOBAN CITY- The 18th National Crime Prevention Week (NCPW) celebration started on Monday with an integrity walk from the Balyuan Tower to the program venue at the Tacloban City Convention Center.
According to Director Nicomedez Jose, regional director of the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM), the kick-off was held in other parts of the country carrying a theme “Crime Prevention, May Magagawa Ako.”
Jose said that every first week of the year is declared as National Crime Prevention Week pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No.461 dated August 31, 1994.
The overall purpose of the celebration is to create awareness and commitment from every citizen of the country in reducing crime and the prevention of being a crime victim, the NAPOLCOM regional director said.
Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez was the main guest during the forma opening of said activity.
Mayor Romualdez emphasized working together to prevent crime as an approach in combating criminality as he enjoined everyone to be committed and dedicate themselves in a crime-free environment for a peaceful city.
The mayor received a new seal of good housekeeping award from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) handed by Assistant Director Arnel Agabe. Last Month the city of Tacloban received a national award from the Philippine National Police as “Most Outstanding LGU” in the country.
Director Jose added that aside from the media blitz, seminar workshop on crime prevention will be held staring at the Eastern Visayas State University which was held yesterday and today at the Leyte Normal University.
The dancing of the Traffic Operations Management, Enforcement and Control Office (TOMECO) traffic enforcers wowed the crowd in the special intermission number.
The kick off was participated by the police force, local government units, government employees, NGOs, socio-civic groups, anti-crime groups , businessmen and students. (VICKY C.ARNAIZ)
