Burglars at work

We are sometimes amazed at how criminals operate nowadays. It’s highly sophisticated, so systematic, well-organized. They synchronize their movements with exceptional precision victims could not help but succumb to their schemes. Their planning and execution of such plans are uniquely superb.

How are criminals able to penetrate even the most secure locations? Surely, it’s not only due to the deadly weapons that they carry with them. It must be with the aid of cutting-edge technological gadgets that enable them to contact one another and move in perfect harmony during their criminal activities, catching authorities off-guard despite the latter’s anti-criminality preparedness.

In big cities like Metro Manila, notorious robbers, snatchers, etc. had become rather daring in staging their attacks. They could get in and out of robbery sites secretly, spotted only when it’s usually late. Such an accurate synchronization of movements could hardly be achieved sans the help of computer-aided communication facilities, like when criminals just relied before on whispering, facial expressions, and sign language to communicate one another.

Well, remote areas are not necessarily spared from these high-tech operations of criminals. Abductions and kidnappings of key individuals who are potential enough for huge ransom demands are common. Signs of their activities being enhanced by cellphones and similar gadgets show, hence their success in most operations, frustrating law-enforcing agencies.

High-tech gadgets are supposedly welcome developments that improve and facilitate human activities. But much as they make life easier and convenient for us, they also serve as tools for criminals to victimize people, to make life miserable for many. And although there are anti-criminality gadgets like hidden cameras that are installed secretly in strategic places, still burglars never hesitate in carrying out their plans, which only shows how prepared and how accustomed they are to their operations.

As high-profile criminals continually succeed in their schemes, all the more that their acquisition of hi-tech gadgetry is facilitated, costly though they are. They could afford to acquire anything like get-away vehicles, high-powered firearms, communication devices, protective suits and all just so they could execute their plans with amazing success. While the authorities are making do with obsolete facilities in running after criminals, the latter are enjoying an edge in that seek-and-hide game.

As always, the pathetic figures in the criminality cycle are the helpless victims whose lives, not just their properties, are put to risk. Sometimes, they end up as “sacrificial lambs” in the entire operation, thanks to hi-tech facilities that enable bad elements to have their tactics work, often without fail. Indeed, no matter good a technological breakthrough is, if it lands in the hands of burglars, it would cause misery.
