BFAR still offers cages for rent

TACLOBAN CITY - The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) continues to sustain their cages for rent project (CRP) to lessen the burden of some fish folks in Leyte specifically in Tacloban and Babatngon.

Julius Ceasar Caballes, provincial fisheries office staff, said that they are already done with the implementation of the project and as matter of fact one cage in Babatngon, Leyte is already with its first cropping.

This family- based project has been going since last year where beneficiaries are registered fisher folks and are endorsed by their local government unit (LGU) through their city or municipal mayor.

“We already have 14 cages in Tacloban City specifically in Tagpuro and 10 cages in Babatngon in which Tacloban is already in their 2nd cropping and they were able to harvest their first stocking a few months ago and was able to pay the production cost to us including the rents, said Caballes.

Moreover, he said that they are aiming to complete the production in Babatngon in which five of the 10 cages there are now in operation.

“We are hoping that this program will continue until the end of this year and even in the next ten years”, he said. (Jennifer V. Magayones LNU Intern)
