Baybay City is growing fast β Mayor Cari
TACLOBAN CITY β The economic status of Baybay City is growing fast.
Thus claimed Mayor Carmen Cari in a recently held press briefing, who pointed out that unity among the people of Baybay is the main factor on the success and development of the city.
Cari revealed that the presence of industrial companies and commercial banks are indicators of Baybayβs increasing economy.
βBefore, we only have one bank (which is the Rural Bank), but now we already have six commercial banks in all. Likewise, there are already four industrial companies operating here from having only one previously,β she said.
Cari added that the different companies present in the city includes the AC Global that processes virgin coconut oil product for exportation, Visayan Oil Mill that produces oil for export, Specialty Pulp Manufacturing, Inc. (SPMI) that produces paper out of abaca for export and the Green Carbon Factoring.
Furthermore, Cari said that the AC Global has proposed to reinvest a new product which is to process coco water for export purposes. Also, a new investor from China who operates the Coreflex Company is undergoing construction of their building in the city now.
According to Cari, the presence of several industrial companies does not only help the government by way of collecting taxes, it also helps the Baybayanons to be employed.
An estimated 500 residents of Baybay was fortunate enough to be hired as workers on those four companies.
βThe LGU is also happy with the existence of these industrial companies because of the taxes which they have to pay. Accordingly, each company pays an amount of P1.2 million for their business permit,β Cari added.
Moreover, the mayor said that on the recent visit of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ormoc, the group commended the LGU officials for the progress that Baybay is now experiencing.
βThe members of chamber of commerce from Ormoc all says praises as to how the LGU officials make Baybay grows fast as it is now,β she said.
With the presence of the industries, farmers then are encouraged to increase the harvest of their agricultural products for they need not spend much on transporting their goods to other places during harvest. As noted, most part of the city is classified as agricultural land.
The conversion of Baybay into a city is considered by Cari as her possible legacy as its leader. (REY GERILLA GRADO)
