The Reproductive Health bill

The support for the bill is unlikely to imperil any politician’s chances in the elections. This is a very popular measure as far as people are concerned. The bill only aims to provide all Filipinos with all the necessary information and access to the various methods of family planning. It does not promote abortion which the church says. There is no connection between contraception and abortion.

Contraception means the use of a barrier so that the eggs and the sperm never meet. If they never meet, there is no abortion.

Many mothers die from pregnancy and childbirth in the country every day because of lack of information and access to the Reproductive Health Care. This means that every year some 3,000 to 5,000 Filipinos die simply because they do not know about reproductive health methods.

Survey after survey shows that an over whelming majority of Filipinos favor on family planning and the use of Government resources from reproductive health. This bill is important for the long term. The couples should be given the freedom to choose what they believe should be good in helping them manage their families. We don’t want to keep repeating that a miss manage population can go out of hand like what is happening in China that is moving heaven and earth to manage their population. Despite of booming economy, they still have 900 Million people living below the poverty line. The same is true with India where over 50% of its 1.2 Billion population lives on less than $2 per day while another 30% lives below the poverty line.

Clearly, the minority in Congress who suddenly change their tune want to ingratiate themselves with the Church in preparation for next year’s election. These are the people we should not vote as they only think of their personal interests.
