National Science and Technology Week to kick off
TACLOBAN CITY- The National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) will kick off this July 10-14, 2012 at the SMX Convention Center at the Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City.
This year’s theme is “Science, Technology and Innovation: Working Together for Growth and Development”.
Engr. Ramil Uy, senior science research specialist of the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office 8 (DOST-RO8), said that NSTW is an annual activity of the DOST to feature the breakthroughs, recent works, developments and
innovations in technologies.
“This time, we are going to emphasize on the emerging technologies that could definitely provide better quality of opportunities to opportunity seekers, not only in the region but all over the country,” he said.
The region will be represented by delegates from Catarman, Northern Samar whose invention is on bio-ethanol, from Samar State University (invention not mentioned) and from the Philippine Science High School-Eastern Visayas who invented the robotic arm for medical purposes. They will vie for national awards in the said event.
The DOST will be featuring an exhibit on bamboo processing from Maasin City. The said exhibit will also be vying for national award.
Moreover, the DOST-8 will be hosting the Visayas Science and Technology Fair which will be held in Tacloban City Convention Center on September 24-28, 2012.
“This will be a replica of what we are going to do in Manila because not all of the people from the Visayas can visit Manila just to witness the celebration of NSTW,” Uy said.
“So the DOST devises a way to bring [the] showcase of the different technologies and innovations we have conducted to the countryside. So, the Visayas cluster will be joined by Regions 6, 7, and 8,” he added. (KERSEY A. BADOCDOC, LNU Intern)
