Mayor Cari claims Galenzoga gave Tacloban media ‘fabricated documents’
BAYBAY CITY – The documents that were presented to the media by Baybay City opposition bet for mayoralty race Marilou “Malot” Galenzoga were fabricated documents, said Mayor Carmen Cari when asked to comment on the issue that was brought by Galenzoga to media practitioners in Tacloban City.
Galenzoga is running under the Tingog Leytenhon, a local political party organized by Phillip Romualdez for his candidacy to the gubernatorial seat.
Based on the allegations Galenzoga, Cari was issued with a check worth P3 million from Viscal Development Corporation using a China Bank check dated February 10, 2012.
The check, according to her, was given by the company as they are interested to lease a portion on the on-going 9-hectare reclamation project of the city near their port area.
“The city mayor should answer why Metro Gaisano had to issue a check worth P3 million to her,” said Alvin Truya, media officer of Galenzoga in the interview.
Both Galenzoga and Truya when asked on what was the reason why the company had given P3 million to the city mayor alleged that it was an SOP or “suhol”.
“If you will clearly study the check, you will see that the figures are not correct,” said Mayor Cari, pointing out that it is not clear if the check is indeed P3 million as there was a missing figure on the check.
On the photocopy of the check presented by Galenzoga to the media, although it was stated that it was P3 million, the figure, however, was not clear as there was a zero lacking after number three.
“If this is really P3 million, after number three and comma, the next figure should be three zeros and another three zero (P3, 000,000), but you can only see two zero after number three and another three zero (P3, 00,000) … how will you read this figure? No bank will accept this kind of check,” Cari stressed.
“You can’t even read it as P300,000,” she added.
Cari added that the figure was also written in words incorrect as the word peso goes first before the actual words of figures.
Cari said that they will be filling a case against those who were circulating accusation against her of accepting SOP from the Metro Gaisano as advised by her lawyer.
Cari added that a representative of Metro Gaisano also went to her office just this week and they presented the photocopy of the check and the supposed lease contract and informed them that they will allegedly be filing a libel case which the representative said that they will support them in her move.
Metro Gaisano representatives also said that the signature affixed in the supposed contract was not even the signatures of any of their heads and the letterhead of the contract is not the official letterhead of their company.
Cari added that it is true that two Gaisano groups are interested in leasing some portion of the reclamation projects, it was the Metro Gaisano that has a better presentation which is why they chose said company.
“She can accuse me of anything, but this kind of accusation, a false accusation using a contract and involving money, this I cannot forgive,” Cari said furiously, adding that Galenzoga’s camp is already desperate to malign her as they cannot prove any wrongdoing of her administration even to the past administration where her son was then the mayor of Baybay.
Cari added that it should be Galenzoga who should explain to the public regarding her alleged estafa case filed in Quezon City by a certain Charlie Ang where she was arrested for selling a fake land title which is until now a live case and Galenzoga allegedly only posted a bail bond reason why she is able to visit and conduct activity in the city of Baybay.
