DOST-8 to grant scholarship

PALO, Leyte — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is preparing for a new set of applicants for scholarship for 2012.

It is an annual scholarship grant for undergraduate high school students who belong to the upper 5% of graduating class.

“This year, hopefully, we can have the application forms earlier so we can disseminate it to different high schools in the region, from Northern Samar to Southern Leyte. Interested applicants can visit our office or our different provincial offices,” said Maya Advincula, scholarship project staff of DOST-8

“We usually distribute the application forms between August and September. The deadline for submission of requirements together with the application form is on October because we usually conduct our exams either in the second or third week of November,” Advincula added.

Applicants must present the application forms with signatures from the school principal and the barangay captain, birth certificate and ITR of both parents.

DOST prioritizes courses which coincide to science and technology, engineering courses except Architectural Engineering and Secondary Education major in mathematics and science.

Passers will benefit from book allowances, uniform allowances for freshmen and tuition fees. (Marisse Cadayong-LNU Intern)
