Ulat sa Bayan of Mayor Abunda highlights Borongan City 5th Year Charter Festival

BORONGAN CITY – With the theme “Siplat Ha Kakuri-an, Pitad Ha Kauswagan, Ipadayon Baysay Borongan,” everything is now all set for this year’s Charter Day fete of this city today.

The three -day activities kicked off last June 18 in the morning, with a Eucharistic Celebration at our Lady of the Nativity Cathedral and was followed by a sports parade around the city. Vice Mayor Fidel Anacta Jr. welcomed the participants at the city hall lobby after which competing teams were presented to the public. Mayor Abunda gave her closing remarks. At 11:00 a.m., the Borongan trade was formally opened at the Baybay Boulevard with Baysay Borongan as its benchmark. Near the Borongan supermarket, the blessing of a new bus terminal was done at 1:00 in the afternoon. Day one was capped with a series of sports at the city’s plaza and other activities at the Baybay Boulevard.

Day Two, June 19 was ushered by a tree planting at the boulevard by personnel of the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and simultaneously the Laro ng Lahi was held in the same venue. While at the city hall lobby, a medical and dental mission was conducted by members of the medical department of the city. In the afternoon, ribbon cutting ceremonies of the different infra projects of the city government led by Mayor Abunda and free concert will enliven the evening.

Meanwhile, in a short interview with city chief of police Supt.Mario Cristino Lucero, he told LSDE that the city police force of the city is at all times ready to respond to any situation that may arise during the Charter Day Celebrations, adding that the situation is very peaceful.

And after a series of “flips and flops” about the cityhood of Borongan and 15 other LUGs, Borongan mark its 5th Charter Day celebration today as a full-pledge city ith a Thanksgiving Mass at the Borongan Cathedral at 8:30 in the morning.

Then back at the city hall lobby, Mayor Abunda will deliver her Ulat sa Bayan address where she’ll outline her achievements for Boronganons especially her vision of Baysay Borongan. Her message will be followed by the awarding of prizes and certificates of recognitions to groups and individuals and the signing of memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) on the LGU’s Bulig Kablas Scholarship Program.

Then ex-Representative Cynthia Villar, the guest of honor, will deliver her message.

A supplemental feeding by the city social welfare office will be done at the lobby and a mass wedding shall give unwed couples a chance to tie the knot for free. The ceremonial turn-over of the city schools division to the city of Borongan will formally be done in the afternoon.

Socials and fireworks will cap the three days’ celebration. (Pio L. Calvo)
