Rep. “ FM” joins Sangyaw Festival, calls for unity

TACLOBAN CITY – Leyte first district Representative Ferdinand Martin “FM” Romualdez joined the thousands of people who watched the first ever Sangyaw Parade of Lights Festival last night as Tacloban celebrates its 123rd fiesta today.

The solon’s cousin, Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, together with Senators Allan Peter Cayetano, Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, party-list Rep. Teddy Casiño of Bayan Muna and former Las Piñas Rep. Cynthia Villar, also participated the festival.

In an interview with Romualdez, he said that he wishes to greet all Taclobanon a happy fiesta as he wished that they have enjoyed the various activities that were lined-up in relation to the annual city fiesta.

Today, Rep. Romualdez will sponsor the Parayawan Night at Balyuan Amphitheater with the ever popular Side A band as main performer.

“(The) people should unite to attain a peaceful and more progressive community as what Señor Sto. Nino, Tacloban and Leyte’s patron saint would want us to have. And as public officials, we should continue to deliver the quality services to our people fiesta or no fiesta,” the solon said.

“Let’s always be thankful for all the blessings we received everyday of our lives from our Creator through the intercession of Señor Sto. Nino,” Romualdez added.

This year’s Sangyaw Parade of Lights Festival had 20 artistically designed floats with LED lights with the image of Señor Sto. Nino mounted in a Galleon-inspired float.

Rep. Romualdez has sponsored the “apple float”.

This week, Romualdez, in partnership with Boom Blastic Riders, led the distribution of schoolbags, school supplies and new shoes to more than 150 students at the city hall grounds after the 17th Unity Ride Race of the Visayas Confederation of the Big Bikers of the Philippines.

He was assisted by city administrator Tecson John Lim with officers and members of Boom Blastic Riders who organized the unity ride.

Romualdez was recently named as one of the awardees of the Sangyaw Awards, given by the city government of Tacloban and the Sangyaw Foundation in recognition with high recommendation as partner in progress and development.

Mayor Alfred Romualdez and wife Councilor Cristina Romualdez together with Sangyaw Foundation president Elvie Galapon Casal handed the awards to Romualdez and the rest who was recognized by the foundation.

Romualdez, who registered a perfect attendance at the House of Representatives, has authored and co-authored several bills in promoting micro-entrepreneurship, enhancing the country’s education system, free hospital benefits in government hospitals to all retired public school teachers, among others.
