Pontifical Mass highlights Tacloban’s fiesta celebration
TACLOBAN CITY- Devotees are to pay their homage to Senior Santo Niño as the city celebrates today its 123rd fiesta celebration honoring the Holy Child Jesus in a Pontifical Mass at the Santo Niño Church.
Tacloban has Senior Santo Niño as its patron.
The more than an hour Pontifical Mass is to be presided by Most Reverend Crispin Varquez of the Borongan Diocese with Most Rev. Filomeno Bactol of the Naval Diocese; Most Rev. Emmanuel Trance of the Catarman Diocese and Most Rev. Angel Hobayan, bishop emeritus of Catarman as co-celebrants.
Various elected officials are expected to grace in today’s Holy Mass like Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez and wife Councilor Cristina Gonzales Romualdez; Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin “FM” Romualdez; Leyte Governor Jericho “Icot” Petilla and An Waray party-list solon, Florencio “Bem” Noel.
The 123rd Tacloban fiesta has the Santo Niño Parish as the “hermano mayor.”
Father Amadeo Alvero, one of assisting priests of the Santo Niño Parish, said that this year’s theme is “So faith and love remains, these three: but the greatest of these is love” (1Corinthians 13:13).
Alvero, who is also the spokesperson of the Metropolitan Palo Archdiocese, said that this year’s theme is so relevant as it is love that will bind the people, regardless of their personal convictions.

“It is also our faith in our Heavenly Protector and Patron, Sr. Santo Niño de Tacloban that gives us hope that one day we will be with Him in His Kingdom in heaven. And as we wait for that day, we are asked to love one another just as He loves us,” Alvero said. (JOEY A. GABIETA)
