Pintados – Kasadyaan Festival 2012 turns out successfully
TACLOBAN CITY – The Pintados – Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals 2012 held last Wednesday at the Leyte Sport Development Center was a success.
At exactly 1:30 p.m. a mass was held with Monsignor Benedicto Catilogo as the celebrant which was immediately followed by the release of 1,000 colorful balloons.
The singing of the Philippine National Anthem was next, which was led by Carlo Martin Igot, one of the finalists of the Leyte Idol Season 1. After which, Krystel Charisse Daya, grand champion of the Leyte Idol Season 6 sang the Leyte Hymn.
Mayor Remedios “Matin” Petilla formally opened the event and was followed by the fiesta greetings of Eugene Tan, president of the Pintados Foundation, Leyte Gov. Carlos Jericho “Icot” Petilla, co- chairperson of the Pintados- Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals, Rep. Mark Villar of Las Piñas and Waray party-list Rep. Florencio “Bem” Noel.
Afterwards, a special award was given to Director Olivia Tiu of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in recognition of her late husband’s work, Roque Tiu, who was the first founding chairman of the Pintados – Kasadyaan Festival of Festivals.
This was immediately followed by the Pintados-Fetival competition with 10 contingents competing and the Kasadyaan – based category having 11 contingents. “This year’s performance was different from last year’s. If you would observe talaga na nalevel- up every year. They learned new techniques and dance steps, especially the Alangalang contingent who won, it was a clean performance”, said Eugene Tan, president of the Pintados Foundation.
The mardi grass was supposed to follow the competition but was cancelled due to heavy rains. They proceeded with the awarding of winners then the grand fireworks display that glued all eyes to the skies. Finally, a special concert was presented to the audience which marked the end of the Pintados – Kasadyaan Festival 2012. (MA. SHERLYN P. ENGLE, LNU INTERN)
