Mayor Kwan: Guiuan is prepared for any disaster
TACLOBAN CITY – The mayor of Guiuan, Eastern Samar said that their municipality is prepared for any occurrence of a disaster.
Mayor Annaliza Gonzales-Kwan in an interview stressed that Guiuan is the only municipality in Eastern Samar that has an excessive training on disaster preparedness to their community.
“We conduct disaster preparedness training to the community down to the barangay level,” Kwan said.
In addition to the conduct of disaster preparedness training, the chief executive revealed that the local government unit
(LGU) also purchased disaster manual and equipment that are important to guide the community in any occurrence of disaster.
“Part of the allotted calamity fund was used to purchase the manual and the equipment that is now available in the LGU two years ago,” she added.
Moreover, Kwan said that the LGU has initiated last year on the conduct of disaster preparedness summit that was participated in by all sectors of the community.
“This disaster summit was participated in by many people of all sectors of the community that include businessmen, professionals, senior citizens, barangay officials, government employees and teachers,” Kwan said.
“The conduct of the summit was indeed a success,” she added.
The Express learned that after the conduct of the disaster summit last year, the municipal government then conducted an actual visitation to the barangay level to do the same activity, where they required all the residents to join the activity. (REY GERILLA GRADO)
