Koko should not join UNA

Joey E. Clarin

The signs are clear as the sun, Sen. Aquilino Pimentel III (Koko) should no longer join the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), a coalition party of PDP LABAN of Jejomar Binay and PMP of former president Joseph Estrada. The UNA is now including Miguel Zubiri in its 2013 Senatorial line-up. It is unthinkable that Koko Pimentel and Miguel Zubiri will be together in one senatorial slate after what happened in the 2007 national elections.

Zubiri is allegedly the beneficiary of the 2007 Maguindanao votes so closely associated with the Maguindanao massacre that resulted in the deaths of journalists, innocent wivesand daughters. As everyone knows Zubiri resigned as Senator after 3 years serving as fake Senator. Pimentel proved beyond reasonable doubt that Zubiri lost the elections to him by more than 200,000 votes.

Koko cannot forget that Zubiri stole 3 years of his life as Senator that’s why he is fighting for truth, freedom and justice and here comes Zubiri who will be beside him when the election campaigns come. What will the people feel? That he is not telling the truth whenever he speaks of a free and clean elections and electoral reforms.

You condone electoral fraud, you might as well condone all crimes. Koko wants to see that justice is done and crime does not pay. All because he wants justice done not only for himself but as well as for others who lost in the elections because they were cheated. He is a principled man, he wants to see things right and he sees Zubiri as left.

Zubiri is in the same mold as Benjamin Abalos, Andal Ampatuan and GMA. There is only one thing that allows life to go on after a crime and that is justice and retribution.

It is said that to err is human, to forgive is divine but mind you forgiveness has its own limit. Even if a person forgives but the act committed is a crime, it would not exonerate the person. If a crime is against the state and the people, personal forgiveness does not erase the act and it becomes a crime. That is why in criminal cases it’s always People of the Philippines vs. the Offender.
