Lingganay Festival of Alang- alang ready to compete at Aliwan Festival 2012

ALANG ALANG, Leyte – Lingganay Festival the Sinulog 2012 Champion in the free interpretation category gears up preparation for the ALIWAN Festival 2012 on April 13 said Alangalang Mayor Loreto “Intong” Yu in an interview. This year’s ALIWAN (a Tagalog word which means “entertainment’) will be held at the Star City Complex in Pasay City.

Lingganay Festival of Alangalang Festival – a first timer in the Sinulog Festival wows the judges and the audience to bag the championship cash prize of P1million.Aside from being the grand champion, Lingganay also won best in musicality and best in costume. Lingganay is the grand champion in the Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival last June 27, 2011 in Tacloban City.
“We are not soliciting funds for the trip to Manila of our dancers and staff. It’s a good thing we got support from the people of Alangalang, our overseas workers, Leyte Governor Jericho “Icot” Petilla and the Pintados Pintados Foundation. We also have the Lingganay Foundation. The dancers will practice for two months,” said Mayor.
Aliwan Festival aims to showcase the different festivals of the 17 regions in the country. The Aliwan Festival will not only showcase the festivals but also the different cultures and heritage of the regions. The different contingents will compete in the dance parade, show proper and beauty pageant. A total of P3million await the winners of this grandest festival in the Philippines.
In another interview with Eastern Visayas Tourism Director Karina Rosa “Karen” S. Tiopes when Lingganay Festival won at Sinulog Festival 2012 in Cebu City, she said that “Lingganay Festival dancers have superb performance, precise movements, fast- paced, clean costume and beautiful costume and props. The festival made me truly proud of our festivals. I enjoined everyone to help promote the Leyte Kasadyaan-Pintados Festival of Festivals as the festival that produces the best festivals in the country. We must become a must visit in the region every June where people can witness and experience the best of the best.”
Aside from Lingganay, the Buyogan Festival of Abuyog, Leyte will compete at the Aliwan Festival. Buyogan was the grand champion in the Aliwan Festival 2010 and a Hall of Famer in the Leyte Kasadyaan Pintados Festival of Festivals will Conchitina Cleofe Yu, the representative of the Lingganay Festival to last night’s Sinulog Queen Competition was adjudged Second Runner-Up. Two more special awards were reaped by Lingganay – Best in Group Performance and Best in Instrument. Nagtitikarisyo la!
