VP Binay: AFP, PNP beneficiaries chose housing site, package
President Benigno S. Aquino III’s housing program for soldiers and police officers gave beneficiaries a freehand in choosing their home locations and packages, according to Vice President and Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council Jejomar C. Binay.
”Sa programang ito, ginamit natin ang tinatawag na community initiated approach para malaman at matugunan ang kagustuhan ng ating mga sundalo at pulis sa usapin ng pabahay,” Binay said.
According to Binay, housing boards of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) assisted in matching the income profiles and housing preferences of the beneficiaries.
The process resulted to the selection of 11 housing sites, including Biñan and Calamba City in Laguna; General Trias and Trece Martires in Cavite; Norzagaray, Bocaue and San Jose Del Monte in Bulacan; and Rodriguez and Baras in Rizal.
Likewise, Binay said two housing packages were developed to suit the purchasing capability of the beneficiaries. Option 1 includes a 36 sqm lot area for P175,000 while option 2 includes a 40 sqm lot area for P208,000.
The Vice President added that both packages come at a P35,000 subsidy from the national government and are payable within 30 years at six percent interest per annum.
“Inaasahan namin na sa Hunyo 2011 matatapos ang unang 3,000 housing units, o 14 percent ng kabuuang 21,800 units na itatayo sa taong ito,” the housing czar said.
”Determinado kami na tapusin ang 21,800 units sa Nobyembre 2011,” he added.
The national government has allotted P4.3 billion for the nationwide AFP/PNP housing program, which will be managed by the National Housing Authority. (PR)
