A Frustrating and Tiresome Waiting Game

Observer

The Supreme Court has thrown out Ombudsman Merciditas Gutierrez’s petition seeking to declare unconstitutional the impeachment proceedings filed against her in the Lower House of Congress. We observed of jubilant reactions from all over because of a concerted strong belief among our people that Ombudsman Gutierrez has blocked all attempts by the Aquino government at running after people under the Gloria Arroyo controversial presidency who have been identified active players in the graft and corruption conspiracy, a telling hallmark of that GMA government.

Unfortunately, Congress can not start the impeachment proceedings because Merciditas Gutierrez is given 15 days to file an appeal. Further it has been noted that these hearings in this country run turtle paced.

Flashback: The Supreme Court stopped the House impeachment proceedings on Sept. 14, 2010 – that is about 5 months ago. We are not certain when the appeal of Gutierrez will be acted upon for the Supreme Court to come up with a decision that is “final and executory”. If it takes another five months to decide on the pleadings of Gutierrez, through her motion for reconsideration, then those who may be in the hangman’s list of former officials to undergo investigation will have all the time to prepare to face the courts, if they feel innocent or to fly away to distant shores to evade arrest, if guilty.

Meanwhile, the inertia of coming up with the intended massive charges to be filed to corrupt personalities is hampered. Our people gets weary, frustrated and tired playing the waiting game and then Ombudsman Merci Gutierrez continue with confidence to bare and show her pangs of defiance. Yes she is going to file a Motion for Reconsideration for the Supreme Court to rethink its position on her complaint.

If only public officials possess even just that slightest sense of delicadeza, this Ombudsman should have resigned months ago. PNoy could have started already the cleansing process in the bureaucracy.

Merci, have mercy on our people. Don’t get impeached. Just Resign!
