When mediocrity trounces all reasons
What could be the reason for one to keep striking on issues and circulating the matter resulting to more questions unanswered, doubts to double and unnecessary resentments than mere irresponsibility and mediocrity in judgment? Unfortunately for some people who pretend they know all, they usually flaunt their ignorance due to pride, personal failures, insecurities and certain incapacities after failing on certain endeavors. They usually end up as puppets and clowns to hide their castrated egos. Out of disillusionment they end up as pests attacking other people and creating miseries for others. What is worse is when they base their speculations on haphazardly researched information, information that are forwarded by people who have also no regard for decency.
I am not particularly zeroing in, on certain gossip and scandalmongers but the description above paints the kind of scenario that has tainted a number of personalities in our midst. It is sad because they are supposed to be credible members of society, members of the Fourth Estate, a respected and independent realm or sphere of influence. But for them to throw accusations using hard-hitting, harsh and strong words to describe some personalities sometimes call for deep reflections on the motives and purposes why such is allowed even to be aired in public.
This outburst is motivated by the relentless barrage of accusations on the leadership of the city government about almost every action, decision, project made, the latest of which is about a piece of contract that a brother in media termed as ‘saragwakon” and “anomalous”! I would have let it go but the harshness of the coined words is too much to swallow. People would do well to remember that when they point an accusing finger at someone, four fingers point back at them. It is difficult to accuse others if we do not know the facts. Before being critical, it is better to know everything so as not to sound condemnatory.
If only our commentator-friend came to the office to ask for details, maybe he would have known the particulars or niceties of the matter. As he is doing now where he seems to enjoy being offensive he is not only doing injustice to the people concerned but also sowing confusion and lies to listeners. At the rate he is doing the onslaught on air, he is victimizing the poor listeners who may inadvertently believe what he is saying. Poor people, they will wake up one day robbed of their innate sense of goodness and decency. The last time my friend was doing this over the airwaves, he was attacking Tacloban, his adopted place of residence regarding its effort to become a highly urbanized city. A little while after, we learned he ran for public office and lost. Yet he waged with his friends that he will come out in the first top 3 posts only to land with his face flat on the ground! His temerity to hurt people with false accusations has come back at him. It is never right to attack unless you are sure where your punches will land. The counter punches could be more painful.
Talking about contracts, I wonder if my friend has looked into its details, the terms of reference and the silent clauses that are inherent in these kinds of documents. He must have forgotten that contracts are between people who are sane and of right thinking. No one in his right mind and thinking would go into agreement with another if he knows that the terms and conditions are one-sided, lopsided, and irregular. These transactions go through rigid review before made final and executory.
It is highly recommended for anyone to look into the complete transaction, not just a peep into its parts so as not to make a fool of oneself. As it is said, little learning is dangerous. No one can claim monopoly of knowledge; to pretend to know it all is the biggest mistake of fools.
