Ms Autor bags Mutya ng Kalikasan 2010 title
TACLOBAN CITY — Karen Joy T. Autor of the Environment and Management Bureau (EMB) bagged the Mutya ng Kalikasan 2010 of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. It is the first time that the DENR held a beauty contest with contestants representing its different bureaus.
The grand coronation night was held at the Convention Center of the Leyte Park Hotel. The pageant is in line with the agency’s 23rd Anniversary celebration and the month of June as Environment Month. Autor is the daughter of Rufino and Perlita Autor. A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management, in Claveria, Misamis Oriental. She is 29 years old, 5’1″, a morena with a vital statistics of 36-26-36. In the Pre-Pageant Competition at the U.P. Library, Autor bagged the Best in Talent Award for her dance interpretation of Anak ng Pasig.
The First Runner-up was Ms. Rochalie L. de Dios, 20 years old, representing the Mines and Geosciences Bureau. She was a crowd favorite and won the Best in Evening Gown Award.
Second Runner-up was Ms. Princess Lyn Jervoso, 21 years old, representing the Office of the Regional Executive Director . She also won the Best in Sportswear in the Pre-Pageant rites at U.P. Library.
The other special awards went to Ms. Theresa Grace Gervoso Natan who won the Best in Native Attire. Her gown was made of Banig (mat) with back pack and headdress accentuated with soft broom. Ms. Natan represented the Land Management Services (LMS).
Third Runner-up was Chareen L. Perez, 24 years old and a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Environment Studies at the University of the Philippines. She represented the office of the Provincial Environment Office (PENRO) Northern, Samar.
The Fourth Runner-up from the office of PENRO, Samar is Ms. Rena D. Jao, 25 years old. She is a Financial Management Graduate.
Regional Executive Director (RED) Primitivo “Jun” Galinato, Jr. of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources thanked those who participated in the contest. RED Jun also encouraged everyone including guests to do their share in the conservation of Mother Earth amidst the global warming.
The office of the Environment and Management Bureau came in full force to congratulate the newly crowned Mutya ng Kalikasan 2010, led by Bureau Director Engr. Letty Maceda and Maribel Munsayac.
The pageant had 8 contestants, all DENR employees and age range from 20-40years old. The Board of Judges composed of Ms. Vicky C. Arnaiz, Chairman; Tacloban City Councilor Neil Glova, beauty queens Ms. Tacloban 2009 Rachelle Chua Pineda; Ms. Pintados 2000 Lourdes Golong and Tacloban City Councilor Frederick Edward Chua.
Among the guests were Former Tourism Director Norma Morantte who came representing the Office of the City Mayor; Leyte Assessor’s Chief Atty. Ralph Iriarte representing Gov. Icot Petilla; representatives from the Philippine National Oil Company and PASAR, among others.
Ms. Wilma Garcia, Executive Assistant to the Regional Director, and Director for Research Manolito Ragub were the Masters of Ceremony. (VICKY C. ARNAIZ)
